Joshuah is a variant spelling of Joshua, which derives from the Hebrew name Yehoshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ), composed of two elements: "Yeho" (a shortened form of Yahweh, the Hebrew name of God) and "shua" (meaning "salvation" or "to save"). The name thus carries the literal meaning "God is my salvation" or "God saves." The name entered English through Greek (Iesous) and Latin (Iesus) translations of biblical texts, eventually becoming Joshua in English.
