Picking a name with someone else is half opinion, half negotiation. One of you loves Theodore; the other can't hear it without picturing a kid who made third grade miserable. This tool turns that back-and-forth into something quick — you each swipe through names on your own time, and only the ones you both saved make the list.
No spreadsheet. No group chat with 200 unread messages. Filter by origin, gender, or length, swipe right on the ones you like, skip the rest. When you're ready, share the link and compare.
How it works
- Set your filters — gender, length, or the origins you're drawn to (Irish, Japanese, Hebrew — your call).
- Swipe through the cards. Right or space keeps a name, left skips it, Esc undoes a slip.
- Open your list any time to sort, group, or trim it down.
- Send your partner the share link, or export the list as a PDF or CSV.
Common questions
- Is the shortlist tool free?
- Yes. Building and sharing a list costs nothing, and no name or its meaning sits behind a paywall.
- Do I need an account?
- No sign-up. Your list lives in a link — copy it, send it, done. Nothing to register, no password to forget.
- How do I share it with my partner?
- Tap "Copy share link" and send the URL however you like — text, email, chat. They open it, see every name you've kept, and add their own.
- Can I save or print the list?
- Download it as a PDF to stick on the fridge, or as a CSV if you'd rather sort it in a spreadsheet.
- Where do the names come from?
- Every name here comes from our own database — thousands of entries, each with a traced origin and meaning.
