Joselle appears to be a modern feminine invention, likely created by blending or feminizing the name Joseph. Joseph derives from the Hebrew Yosef, composed of the elements *yosef* (to increase) and *el* (God), yielding the literal meaning "God shall increase" or "He shall add." The name gained prominence through the biblical Joseph, son of Jacob, whose story in the Book of Genesis emphasizes themes of growth, blessing, and divine favor. As the name Joseph became established across European languages—József in Hungarian, Giuseppe in Italian, and José in Spanish—creative parents in the mid-20th century began developing feminine variants and diminutive forms.
