Jeriah is a modern English respelling and variant of the Hebrew name Yirmeyahu (ירמיהו), commonly known in English as Jeremiah. The name derives from the Hebrew roots "yir" (יר), meaning "to see" or "to perceive," and "yah" (יה), a shortened form of Yahweh, the Hebrew name for God. Thus the literal meaning is "God has seen" or "God will see," conveying divine observation and awareness. Traditional biblical Hebrew renders this as Jeremiah, which entered European languages through Latin and Greek transliterations used in religious texts.
