The story behind Jedaiah

Jedaiah is a Hebrew name composed of two elements: "Yah," a shortened form of Yahweh (the divine name in Hebrew scripture), and "daiah," derived from the Hebrew root "yada" meaning "to know" or "to acknowledge." The literal translation thus renders as "God knows" or "the Lord knows." The name belongs to a broader family of theophoric names in Hebrew tradition—those incorporating divine names as a way of expressing religious devotion or invoking divine blessing. The phonetic structure of Jedaiah follows typical Hebrew naming conventions, with the divine element placed at the beginning to emphasize the sacred connection. While the name has ancient Hebrew roots, its usage in English-speaking populations remained minimal until the late 20th century.

Jedaiah appears in biblical texts as the name of several minor figures, most notably a priest during the time of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 12:6, 12:21), and also as a descendant of Simeon in 1 Chronicles.
