Rainer derives from the Germanic name Raginhari, composed of two elements: "ragin" (counsel, advice) and "hari" (army, warrior). The name therefore carries the literal meaning of "warrior counselor" or "army counselor." It evolved through Old High German as Reginher and became Rainier in Romance languages, particularly in Italian and French contexts. The German form Rainer emerged as the language-specific variant, maintaining strong popularity throughout German-speaking regions.
