Michalina is the Polish feminine form of Michael, derived from the Hebrew name Mikha'el, composed of two elements: "mi" (who), "ka" (like), and "el" (God). The literal meaning is therefore "who is like God?" This rhetorical question reflects a theological concept common in Semitic naming traditions. The name traveled from Hebrew through Greek (Michail) and Latin (Michael) into Old Church Slavonic and eventually into Polish, where the feminine diminutive suffix "-ina" was applied to create Michalina. Similar feminine forms developed across other Slavic languages, such as Russian Mikhailina and Ukrainian Mykhailyna, though Michalina became the standard Polish variant.
