Isaih is a variant spelling of Isaiah, which derives from the Hebrew name Yeshayahu (ישעיהו). The name is composed of two Hebrew elements: yasha, meaning "to save" or "to deliver," and yah, a shortened form of Yahweh, the Hebrew name for God. Thus the literal meaning translates to "God is salvation" or "Yahweh saves." The name traveled from Hebrew into Greek as Esaias, and subsequently into Latin as Isaias. Through Romance languages and medieval English, it eventually stabilized as Isaiah in English-speaking regions.
