Enosh is derived from the Hebrew root עָנַשׁ (anash), which carries the fundamental meaning of "man" or "human being." The name appears in its most basic form in biblical Hebrew as a common noun denoting humanity, though it is perhaps most recognized as the proper name of a biblical figure. The Hebrew term relates to the broader Semitic language family, where similar roots indicate mortal or human existence. The etymology emphasizes the finite, mortal nature of humanity in contrast to the divine, reflecting ancient Hebrew philosophical categories.
