The story behind Bodhi

Bodhi derives from Sanskrit बोधि (bodhi), meaning "awakening" or "enlightenment." The root word bodh- carries the sense of "to wake, to understand, to perceive," and the suffix -i forms a feminine noun. The term entered Sanskrit religious vocabulary within Buddhism, where it developed profound spiritual resonance. From Sanskrit, Bodhi passed into other languages influenced by Buddhist traditions across Asia, including Hindi, Nepali, and other Indic languages.
